¡Hola a todos!
Después de nuestro primer día en el Albergue Max, toca hacer
un pequeño “diario de a bordo” con todo lo que hemos vivido desde nuestra
llegada.
El día comenzó desapacible...¡y continuó así hasta la noche!
Tras la llegada al albergue, conocimos a nuestros monitores: Peli, Zac, Sara y
Ana. 4 chicos jóvenes que desde el principio no pararon de hablarnos en
inglés...¡al final va a ser cierto que solo podemos hablar en inglés aquí!
También conocimos a David, el director del albergue, que nos explicó las normas
básicas a seguir durante estos días. Tras el reparto de habitaciones, nos
dispusimos a comenzar las actividades.
Por la mañana, nos dividieron en 2 grupos en función de la edad. Dentro de cada
grupo, se formaron equipos de 4-5 personas (The cats, The stars, Juanma’s boys,
etc...) que irán sumando puntos durante estos días en función del desarrollo de
las actividades, de nuestra capacidad para hablar en inglés
constantemente...¡incluso nos restan puntos si nos oyen hablar en español!
El primer grupo comenzó con una actividad muy entretenida.
Cada equipo era un país distinto (Angola, Mozambique, España y EEUU), que
contaba con distintos recursos: tijeras, cartón, pinturas, dinero y comida. El
objetivo era que cada país construyese una casa con los recursos de que
disponía. Y si quería obtener más, debía hacer cambios con el resto de países. Con
una condición...¡sólo podíamos negociar en inglés! : “We need crayons!”, “Can I
have your scissors for 2 minutes?”, “We haven`t got money!” fueron algunas de
las expresiones más utilizadas. Pronto nos dimos cuenta de que los países
cuentan con recursos muy distintos, y que a la hora de negociar, los estados
más ricos se aprovechan de los más necesitados. Con lo cual, además de aprender
inglés conocimos bien el significado de otra palabra: SOLIDARIDAD.
El segundo grupo realizó otra actividad muy divertida: cada
equipo debía diseñar una ciudad en base a un presupuesto que nos expusieron los
monitores en inglés. Restaurantes, museos, universidades, cines, escuelas,
hospitales...¡¡queríamos todo para nuestra ciudad!! Finalmente, cada grupo
expuso su trabajo en inglés y dibujó sus ciudades en cartulinas.
A la hora de comer...¡¡más inglés!! Cada uno íbamos pasando
en fila a por nuestras bandejas, cubiertos, comida... ¡pero no nos servían si
lo pedíamos en español! “Can I have a fork”, “May I have a spoon?”. ¡Incluso
Peli nos restaba puntos si no hablábamos en inglés en la mesa!
Por la tarde, cada grupo intercambió sus actividades y
preparamos la de la noche: una actuación de circo. Los equipos debían escribir
y ensayar su espectáculo con malabaristas, domadores, presentadores... ¿adivináis
en qué idioma? ¡En inglés, of course!
Tras la cena realizamos las actuaciones, ante un jurado
compuesto por los monitores. Los ganadores fueron... ¡los “Juanma’s boys”! Aquí
colgamos un vídeo de su actuación para que os deleitéis con ellos (con una interpretación estelar de Ermis a partir del 2:30).
La jornada había sido larga, así que nos fuimos pronto a
dormir. Lo hemos pasado genial este primer día, aunque es una pena que no pare
de llover porque estamos deseando hacer alguna actividad en el exterior.

Hello everybody!
After our first day at the Max Hostel, It's time to write a brief diary telling all we have lived from our arrival.
The day was cloudy and rainy...! And it reamins so till night! After the arrival in the hostel, we met our mentors: Peli, Zac, Sara and Ana. 4 young eager guys who from the very beginning didn't stop talking to us in English...! In the end, it's true we must just speak English here! We also met David, the hostel Manager, who explained us the basic rules to follow during our staying. First, we were shown the rooms and they told us who were we sharing with, and then we started the activities.
In the morning, we were divided in 2 groups according to our age. In each group, there were 4 or 5 people and they were given a name: The cats, The Stars, Juanma's Boys, etc... We were adding up points day by day by doing the activities properly, speaking English as much as possible, we can even lose points for not doing so.
The first group began with a very entertaining activity. Every team represented a different country: Angola, Mozambique, Spain, USA,..., which had different resources: scissors, cardboard, crayons, money and food. The aim was building a house with their own resources, and if we wanted to have more commodities we had to trade with the other countries. Of course, there was one condition: we could only get into negotiation in English! “We need crayons!”, “Can I
have your scissors for 2 minutes?”, “We haven`t got money!” There were some of the expressions we used more. Soon we realized that countries have very different resources ones from the others, so when negotiating, big rich developed countries take advantage of those poor less developed countries.Through this activity not only we learnt English but we also acknowledge the meaning of SOLIDARITY.
The second group did another very funny activity: each group should design a sustainable city based on a given budget: restaurants, museums, universities, cinemas, schools, hospitals,...! We wanted a bit of every of the above for our cities! Finally, every group explained the choice of the design for their cities and the cities were drawn on cardboard sheets.
At lunch time ..., more English! We formed a line and we asked for our trays, forks, knives, spoons, glasses, napkins,... And we were not served until we asked for them in English! Not Spanish at all! “Can I have a fork”, “May I have a spoon?”. Even Peli took points from us if we spoke Spanish at the table!
In the afternoon, groups exchanged their previous activities and we prepared the activity we were about to do in the evening: A circus performance! Every team should write and rehearse their show with jugglers, lion tamer, presenters,... Can you guess what was the language we used? English, of course!
After having dinner, we performed our shows in front of a jury formed by our mentors. And the winners were...! Juanma's Boys! Here you are a video of their performance so you can enjoy with them.
It had been a really long, so we went to bed early. We had a lot of fun day in our very first day. It was a pity it didn't stopped raining, though. We were longing for doing some outdoor activities. Hoping for more ! Goodbye!
